Life certificate submission is no more a hassle for pensioners and senior citizens, as is evident from recent data which shows that over 10 million digital life certificates (DLCs) have been generated by November 26, 2024.
Early this month, the government launched DLC 3.0 campaign to spread awareness about digital submission of life certificates; and it seems this has eventually accelerated DLC’s acceptance among pensioners.
“Digital life certificate (DLC) introduced for the convenience of pensioners and elder citizens has crossed the record one crore mark in the ongoing campaign,” PTI quoted Union Minister Jitendra Singh as saying.

While it is mandatory to submit a life certificate every year, going to the banks, post offices, or common service centres (CSCs) to submit the same is no longer necessary. Technology is making life easy for pensioners, certainly for this particular task. DLC is a convenient option for submitting Jeevan Pramaan in a matter of minutes from the comfort of one’s home.
Reportedly, of the total number of DLC generated of over 10 million, more than 30 per cent (3,034,218) have been generated through face authentication, which shows a 202 per cent increase over the previous year in terms of face-authenticated DLCs. Face authentication does not need an external biometric device, so anyone having an Android phone can use it to avail of the DLC service. According to UIDAI, face authentication ‘provides a solution for individuals with worn-out fingerprints or damaged eyes’.
The last date to submit the life certificate is November 30, 2024. If not submitted yet, pensioners can do it online through the Jeevan Pramaan App.

Late Submission Of Life Certificate: What Will Happen?
If the life certificate is not submitted by November 30, 2024, the pension is stopped from the next month. Even if the delay is due to technical reasons, the pension payment is stopped.
However, one can submit it later at the earliest convenience. Once the details reach the pension authority, which is the central pension processing centre (CPPC) for pension payment, the pension will start along with arrears from the subsequent month.
“In case a life certificate is not submitted for a period of three years or more, the pension will be commenced after sanction of the competent authority through the CPAO, as per due process,” according to the UIDAI portal.
So, until there is an unavoidable situation, it is better to submit the certificate timely and receive an uninterrupted pension. For any query regarding the portal or pension, one can call on 1947, and if there is a grievance, it can be raised on the pensioners’ portal.
