Health is the most highly valued asset for anyone, especially for senior and super-senior citizens. With age come health-related ailments. However, thanks to evolving technologies, people are handling health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, hearing loss, weak bones, and chronic illnesses prevalent among seniors much better than before.
According to a research paper titled “Senior Care Reforms in India – Reimagining the Senior Care Paradigm”, published by Niti Aayog in February 2024, the elderly people in India comprise around 10 per cent of the total population and are projected to increase by 19.5 per cent to around 319 million. Meanwhile, the dependency ratio, which indicates the ratio of the population under 15 and over 65 compared to those between 15 and 65 years, is projected to decrease by 2025. This change could be attributed to the increasing working-age population, nuclear families, and other reasons. However, the dependency ratio, which was 56.92 in 2020, is expected to rise to 61.22 by 2050, as per the report.
