AI Social Robots For Elderly

Social robots with artificial intelligence can be a great help to older people in fighting loneliness in India. Some of these robots being developed today are culturally sensitive and can communicate in multiple languages. They provide companionship, support in daily activities, help with medication, and monitor health. They can also entertain people with games, music, and storytelling. These robots have emotional intelligence that enables them to comfort and empathise with people in stress and despair. Games give people cognitive stimulation, which keeps their minds active. Moreover, robots can function round-the-clock, unlike humans.

The development of affordable, accessible AI social robots is crucial in India. These robots should be integrated seamlessly with existing healthcare infrastructure, such as hospitals and nursing homes, to provide better care to senior citizens. Developers must address the ethical and privacy concerns regarding data collection, surveillance, and autonomy to ensure trust and acceptance among seniors and their families. The user experience design should be intuitive and easy for seniors with varying technological literacy and cognitive abilities.

However, robots should not entirely replace human interaction. A balanced approach integrating robots with human interaction, family caregivers, and community resources is crucial to enhance their quality of life. Moreover, given that access to technology and affordability may still be barriers, social robots have a long way to go before they become dependable for all Indians.
