Joe Biden's lip of tongue attracts criticism

US President Joe Biden’s “slip of the tongue” on the sidelines of a recent NATO Summit to celebrate its 75th anniversary when he confused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Russian President Vladimir Putin may have given his political rivals another opening to target the octogenarian. While his recent gaffes may be due to his advanced age and would have been easily ignored had he been an ordinary citizen, the criticisms towards him are fast and deliberate as he holds the country’s highest political office by being the president of the United States.

However, such aberrations may also point to the larger concern of mental and physical health. Hopefully, the president is in good health and spirit and will continue many more years in office.

Stress Management

Stress management is critical for an individual’s overall mental and physical health, especially for senior citizens. There could be many things going on in their lives, but the key is to keep calm, whatever the situation, so they don’t overthink, react or panic beyond what is necessary to avoid an adverse effect on their mental and physical health. Hence, it is important to incorporate stress management techniques, such as yoga and meditation, in their daily lives. They can even seek professional help for stress management.

Proper Sleep

Proper sleep is also vital for the overall health of an individual. Most physicians recommend at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep for the body to get adequate rest after a hard day’s work, whether mental or physical. One should also find some free time to rejuvenate one’s mind and body. Inadequate sleep can not only affect the mind but also your physical health. If you have a sleeping problem, consult an expert or use meditation techniques, listen to light music, etc., before bed, which can help you focus on sleep. A good night’s sleep is vital for you to keep your mental health and memory in good shape.

Proper Diet

It is important to have a proper diet with adequate nutrients. Staying hungry for too long or eating too much are both extremes. Avoid such scenarios. There must be a balance between how much food your body needs and how much food you should eat. Too much or too little are both unhealthy. Also, meals need to be timed apart fairly instead of having one after the other in a gap of merely two to three hours.

Social Activities

Social activities like get-togethers, board games, or hanging out with friends can help senior citizens maintain an active social life besides spending time with family members. Friends can help maintain a healthy social life; you can talk to them or accompany them on walks, etc. Joining a social club where you can speak to them about mutual interests like movies, books, etc., can help you forget your minor life problems.

Staying Active

Regular physical activity is another critical aspect of living healthy. It boosts the immune system, which is especially helpful for senior citizens. It strengthens the body’s defence against infections and issues. Low-impact practices are also beneficial for maintaining good health for senior citizens. Staying active also requires consistent effort and motivation to remain disease-free.
