Your existing home, whether it is your first one or the one you bought later in your work life, holds a lot of memories. In fact, it is a part of your family, having seen your age, and your children grow up, along with a bagful of celebrations, festivals and events to cherish. When taking important decisions regarding property there are a lot of things to keep in mind.

However, for many people, who usually decide to relocate after their retirement, selling their house is the first big step to a new retired innings.

So, if you are also planning to relocate and thinking of selling your house, here are 3 things to keep in mind before selling your house.

Find A Realtor: Simply deciding that you want to sell your house is not enough. You have to actively put word out there for potential buyers. An experienced professional who has clients can help you meet those buyers and also tell you about the correct value of the house, both of which are important. You should find a realtor that works on your timeline and listens to you.

Some people don’t want the house to be completely gone, so they look for a family as a buyer and not a builder who might want to demolish the property and construct a commercial space, such as an apartment building. Clear communication is of utmost importance as this will help you avoid any misunderstanding.

Communicate clearly if you want your house’s history to be preserved.

Make Repairs: Making repairs, such as fixing dripping faucets and a fresh coat of paint can give your house that finished look and make it look like new. Polishing the marble floor and cleaning the tiles for more aesthetically appealing look is also helpful from a selling point of view.

Making other repairs, such as fixing the drainage or any lose piping system that may need to be changed, will also help you fetch a good price and sell it quickly, as buyers typically avoid properties that require a lot on repairs. It will also make the structure stronger, which can add more money to its value.

Take Time To Pack: Selling a house is way more difficult and mentally exhausting than one can imagine.

But doing it in your old age is even more difficult. Take your time to pack and go over everything that might need to be transferred to your new house. If you are in a hurry, there is a chance they will either forget something or will be packing till the last minute due to poor management.

Sometimes when you see a house it is easier to imagine your life there if it is empty and not filled with someone else’s things. If a buyer can’t imagine themselves in the house chances are they won’t put an offer. Estimate the time you need to pack so that the realtor brings them to a house that a) they can imagine themselves in and b) is fully renovated from your side so that they get a clearer picture of what they are buying.

These three things to keep in mind will give a clear idea of how to manage the sale of your old house so that it does not become a resource-draining pit. You need to decide everything on your own who you want to sell it to and in what condition.
