Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana: Aid to helps seniors buy disability equipment
The Maharashtra government launched the Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana to provide financial assistance to seniors aged 65 and above with various old-age-related disabilities. Under the scheme, the government will provide Rs 3,000 annually via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, in which funds are deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts to purchase support equipment for hearing loss, visual impairment, mobility issues, etc. The scheme will particularly benefit older people with such age-related challenges and limited money to buy them.

The government is expected to launch a website for the Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana in the coming days. The website will enable people to gather information and apply to the scheme conveniently. On the web portal, they can also check the application status and payment history, update KYC (know-your-customer) details, etc.

The Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana 2024, formally announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde last month, will benefit scores of senior citizens, including elderly women. To be eligible, the beneficiary must be a permanent resident of the state and 65 or older, with valid documents and an Aadhar-linked bank savings account to transfer funds.
The Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana 2024 will provide Rs 3,000 financial assistance annually to 1.5 million senior citizens in Maharashtra. The government will transfer the funds directly into the beneficiary’s bank savings account via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana web portal will allow people to apply for the scheme from their homes. The Eknath Shinde government has allocated a budget of Rs 480 crore for the scheme to alleviate the challenges faced by the elderly citizens in Maharashtra by providing necessary financial support.
The assistance aims to enable seniors to purchase essential equipment tailored to their individual needs, such as spectacles, tripods, lumbar belts, folding walkers, cervical collars, walking sticks, wheelchairs, commode chairs, knee braces, and hearing aids, among others. The aim is to address the challenges faced by senior citizens, allowing them to maintain financial independence and live comfortably in their later years. The initiative aims to promote the well-being and dignity of elderly persons across Maharashtra.

To apply for the Mukhyamantri Vayoshri Yojana 2024, applicants must possess the following documents: Aadhar card, passport-sized photograph, mobile number, and income certificate, ration card, proof of address, and bank account passbook.
