The Centre announced that more than 1.8 lakh pensioners successfully generated their Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) on the first day of a special campaign aimed at promoting this process. The third nationwide DLC campaign was started by the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) and would span 800 Indian cities and districts between November 1 and November 30, 2024, PTI reported.
According to the personnel ministry, "This is the biggest-ever DLC campaign undertaken," highlighting the scope of the project. A total of 1.81 lakh DLCs have been generated as of Friday evening.

In order to expedite the DLC process for seniors, the campaign places a high priority on the usage of face authentication technology. Throughout the campaign, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) offer crucial technical assistance. This technology has been designed to be seamless and convenient for elderly pensioners and is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

A number of partners, including pension-disbursing institutions, the India Post Payments Bank, retirees' welfare associations, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), and the railways are involved. The goal is to ensure that all pensioners, even those in the most remote areas, can access this service.
The personnel ministry's statement underlined the campaign's commitment to reaching pensioners nationwide, utilizing modern technology to enhance accessibility and efficiency.
The Nationwide Digital Life Certificate Campaign 3.0's adoption is a significant step toward enhancing the digital empowerment of Indian pensioners. By embracing innovative technology like face authentication, the government aims to simplify the certification process, ensuring that all pensioners, especially those in remote areas, can easily access their entitlements.
Senior citizens are urged to engage in this campaign and utilize the available services. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare is committed to making this procedure as easy and effective as possible, and it has strong support networks in place and is working to reach every area of the nation.

Stressing the need for multiple pension accounts, Mohanty said, “It is believed if one head of the family has a retirement account, it is financial nirvana for the whole family. It is not like that.”
