Retirement gratuity and death gratuity depend on the last basic pay drawn and the length of service rendered by the employee.

Sharing the national figures, Mohanty said 144 lakh employees, including 90 lakh government ones, have enrolled under the National Pension System (NPS) so far.

There are 67.95 lakh central government pensioners, and defence constitutes the highest share, with around 33.87 lakh.

Government sector subscribers will not be allowed to partially withdraw from their NPS account through self-declaration.
