The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the last date to update Aadhaar details for free by three months, from June 14 to September 14, 2024.
Aadhaar details, such as your name, date of birth, address, etc., are used in various financial transactions, including demat and bank accounts, post office investments, and filing income tax returns, among others, for verifying Know-Your-Customer (KYC) information.

So, if you want to update your Aadhaar details online for free, you can do it by September 14, 2024. However, in offline mode, you will need to pay a fee.

Aadhaar has become ubiquitous as almost all authorities demand Aadhaar details for verification. UIDAI advises people to update their Aadhaar information every 10 years to keep the document relevant. The earlier deadline to update Aadhaar details for free was June 14, 2024.
UIDAI charges a nominal Rs 100 to update biometric details and Rs 50 to update demographic information, such as name, date of birth, gender, mobile phone number, and email address. The free updation facility is available on UIDAI’s official website, myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
Here is the process to update Aadhaar details online for free.

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI and log in with your Aadhaar number login ID and one-time password (OTP) received on your mobile number
Step 2: Click on the ‘Document Update’ option and check the details.
Step 3: If the details are correct, click on the next tab, ‘I verify that the above details are correct’
Step 4: If details are incorrect, update it. Select the option for what needs to be changed (proof of identity, proof of address) from the drop-down menu and upload the relevant document.
Step 5: Upload the copies of the documents in PNG/JPEG/PDF format within the stipulated file size.
Step 6: Click submit.
After this, an update request number (URN) will be generated; note it down or save it somewhere for future reference. As per the UIDAI website, 90 per cent of Aadhaar update requests are completed within a month or 30 days.
