The National Pension System (NPS) is a popular government-supported small savings scheme for retirement. It caters to people from different economic backgrounds and residential status. For instance, NPS is open to all government and corporate employees, self-employed, homemakers, retirees, and resident and non-resident Indians (NRIs). NPS subscribers have increased manifold due to its increasing awareness and benefits.
The scheme offers flexibility in deposits and withdrawals and in choosing fund managers for annuity plans. Here’s how to check the NPS balance.

Check Your NPS Account Balance Via CRA Or POP

Subscribers can check their NPS account balance through their respective Central-Record Keeping Agencies (CRAs) or the point of presence (PoP). CRAs and PoPs also help people open their NPS accounts. The subscriber must log into the relevant CRA website using the Permanent Retirement Allotment Number (PRAN) and a password to check the NPS balance on CRA, formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Ltd. Then, check the accumulated balance under the ‘Transaction statement – Holding statement’. From April 1, 2024, NPS has made a two-factor authentication, comprising an OTP and password, mandatory to log into the website.

Check Via UMANG Portal Or App
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National e-Governance division have developed the UMANG platform to provide information on various government schemes, including NPS. One can also check the NPS account balance through the UMANG website or its app. To check the account balance through the mobile app, download the app, enter your PRAN ID and password, and click ‘Current holding’ to check the details.
Check NPS Account Balance Via DigiLocker:
One can also check the NPS account balance via DigiLocker. This cloud-based document storage platform provides access to essential documents and information, including NPS, on the go. All CRAs are partner organisations of DigiLocker. To check the NPS balance or to download an NPS statement from DigiLocker, the subscriber should click on the PFRDA button in the DigiLocker app and provide details like 12-digit PRAN, date of birth, and consent to share the information with the respective issuer. After putting in the details, the document will be fetched from the original issuer, in this case, the CRAs or the service providers.

Missed Call:
A missed call is the simplest way to know the NPS account balance. The subscriber can give a missed call to 9212993399 from the NPS-linked mobile number. The subscriber will receive an SMS with the NPS account balance details within a minute or two.
Consolidated Account Statement (CAS):
Consolidated account statement (CAS) provided by the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and Central Depository Services Ltd (CDSL) also contains the NPS details. An NPS subscriber must log in to the CRA website with credentials (User ID, password, OTP, date of birth, consent, etc.) and submit the request to integrate NPS account details in the CAS. Once the request is processed, NPS details will show in the CAS from next month, along with mutual funds and stock investment.
