How To Check National Pension System (NPS) Details On DigiLocker?

The National Pension System (NPS) subscribers can now view their NPS statement through DigiLocker, a cloud-based document storage platform. Announcing this in a June 14, 2023 circular, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) said there are now 16.50 crore registered users on DigiLocker, of which five lakh are NPS subscribers.

The circular said that Tier I and Tier II NPS subscribers could download the NPS Account Transaction Statement to DigiLocker to view their pension wealth.

PFRDA has appointed three Central Record Keeping Agencies (CRAs) that maintain official records: Protean e-Governance Technologies CRA (PCRA), KFin Technologies CRA (KCRA), and Computer Age Management Services CRA (CCRA) for the NPS account facility.

These CRAs are partner organisations of DigiLocker, which provide online services like Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, NPS account opening using driving licence and Aadhaar-DigiLocker integration, updating address, accessing ePRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number), and NPS statement of account.

To download the NPS account statement and e-PRAN, the subscribers must search for PFRDA in the DigiLocker app and provide details of the PRAN, their date of birth and consent to share the information with the issuer.

How To Check NPS Details In DigiLocker?

It is simple to access NPS details through the DigiLocker platform.

  • First, the NPS member must sign up for the platform (DigiLocker) with their mobile phone number or the Aadhaar card number.
  • The member will receive a one-time password (OTP) for 2-factor authentication. After writing the OTP in the box, the NPS member/subscriber will receive a request for setting the password. The subscriber then needs to set the 6-digit security pin.
  • Once the pin is set, the DigiLocker account is created for use.
  • The documents stored in the DigiLocker are issued by government entities such as Ministry for Road and Transport for driving licences, the Income Tax department for PAN, CRAs appointed by PFRDA for NPS, etc.
  • These documents are in digital form and directly sourced from the original data source, i.e. the CRAs.
  • After sign-in, one may look for the issued document section containing links to different documents to fetch the required documents.
  • As a subscriber, to see the NPS statement, one needs to search for the PFRDA in DigiLocker and then select the relevant CRA.
  • The next step is to write the 12-digit PRAN.
  • Finally, the subscriber is required to provide consent (a one-time activity) for sharing details with the issuer, the CRAs in the case of NPS, to get the details and download the account statement.

CRAs offer services that differ from one to another. So the subscribers should select the CRA relevant to them to fetch the NPS details. Let us see the services these CRA offer through DigiLocker.

Services Offered By CRAs

Protean e-Governance Technologies CRA (PCRA):

  • Subscribers can view e-PRAN card & account statements.
  • Subscribers can update their existing address using their driving license through DigiLocker.
